"If you would be a seeker of truth, it is necessary that at least once in your life you doubt, as far as possible, all things." Rene Descartes
I engaged in this exercise between the ages of eighteen and twenty-one. Shortly before that milestone birthday, I bumped up against something I found could not be doubted.
While partying midday just before the Spring (Easter) break with my roommate at Penn State -- and feeling comfortably numb -- I heard him say: "It's pretty cool how they pulled off that Resurrection hoax by getting Jesus stoned before sticking him to the cross."
With a big "swoosh" sound in my head, suddenly quite alert and perspicacious, I told him he was crazy. "Jesus Christ actually died a horrible death on the cross and did in fact rise from the dead a few days later."
Having that certainty about that one undeniable truth changed my life from that moment for every moment since, and forever.
Thanks be to God for removing the scales from my eyes, and giving me eyes to see.
